Screenings for student athletes and active adults

Maintaining an active lifestyle is key to overall health and well-being, but it's equally important to ensure your heart is up to the challenge. Whether you have a student athlete pushing their limits or are an adult committed to staying fit, regular heart screenings are crucial in preventing potential issues before they arise.

Heart screenings for active lifestyles

OhioHealth offers essential preparticipation heart screenings for student athletes and active teens and adults aged 14 and older. These screenings are designed to detect underlying heart conditions that could pose risks during physical activities. They do not replace the OHSAA pre-participation physical. The cost is $95 with eligibility for FSA reimbursement.

Non-invasive screening tests:

  • Electrocardiogram (EKG): Measures the electrical activity of your heart.
  • Focused echocardiogram (FoCUS): A painless ultrasound that provides detailed images of your heart.

An OhioHealth heart and vascular sports cardiologist will evaluate and interpret the results, which will be conveniently posted to your OhioHealth MyChart account.

Our cardiac screening locations

Sudden cardiac arrest in active teens and adults is rare, but often fatal. Routine physicals and wellness visits can miss many of the common causes. A detailed cardiac screening takes less than 30 minutes. The peace of mind can last a lifetime.
