The OhioHealth Research Institute participates in ResearchMatch, a free, convenient and secure program that brings together people in search of research studies and clinical trials, as well as researchers looking for volunteers. ResearchMatch proudly collaborates with 203 participating institutions and 69 community organizations to bring important studies, health information and resources to you. ​About clinical trials

Nearly all modern treatment options have developed as a result of clinical trials and research. This is how treatments that were once experimental become standards of care. Thousands of people are helped each year because they decided to take part in a clinical trial, and millions more benefit as a result.

What are clinical trials?

Clinical trials, also known as research studies, are designed to find answers to specific health questions. They often look at new drugs or a combination of drugs, surgical procedures or devices, ways to use existing treatments, and ways to help with the side effects of treatment and add to one's quality of life.

Who conducts clinical trials?

Clinical trials are carried out by a team of healthcare experts who are dedicated to connecting you with the latest advances in care. During your trial, your team consists of:

• Your physician, who oversees your care and treatment throughout your study.
• Your research coordinator, who manages your care, provides information about the study, assists you in managing any symptoms and collects information about how the treatment affects you.
•    You, the most vital and important part of the team. Your participation and cooperation enables us to make advances in treatment that can be a great benefit for years to come.

Who can participate in a clinical trial?

Your eligibility to participate in a clinical trial will be evaluated by your physician. A clinical trial may be an option for you in combination with your current care plan.

How am I protected?

One of the most important goals in conducting clinical trials is to protect the safety of clinical trial participants. To ensure participants’ safety, all clinical trials conducted at OhioHealth are subject to careful review and approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) and ongoing quality monitoring.
