WE are building the future of neuroscience

To support our community's needs and provide the best patient experience in neuroscience healthcare, OhioHealth is building a state-of-the-art OhioHealth Neuroscience Institute.

Expanding our program and expertise
OhioHealth is already home to one of the nation's largest comprehensive neuroscience programs with unparalleled physician expertise for the treatment of brain and spine conditions. And now we're announcing a world-class destination to match it. The Institute represents a unique approach to care unlike any other, by fostering collaboration between disciplines including neuroscience, vascular, and heart care, providing greater convenience and a better patient experience overall.

Honoring patient privacy
The OhioHealth Neuroscience Institute will have 224 private rooms. This gives patients and their loved ones the privacy they need, improves patient safety and hospital experience, and positively influences physician and staff productivity. After the new facility opens, Riverside Methodist Hospital will gradually transition to a nearly all-private room campus.

Reducing anxiety and stress
Our team of experts is using the latest research in space design to create a healing environment with the unique neuroscience patient in mind. Specially designed floor patterns, colors and other interior materials will help with wayfinding, reduce stress and improve overall patient well-being. Patients and their families will experience quiet areas and beautiful gardens, as well as an atrium in the center of the building that will let natural light into every patient care room. The environment is designed not only to help the unique neuroscience patient get better, but feel better, too.

Meeting the need
We anticipate an increase in the need for neuroscience care due to aging baby boomers, increasing life span and improved diagnostics. We'll meet that need with our new facility, ensuring our community has the most advanced, comprehensive neuroscience expertise and care available. We'll also be hiring. Once the OhioHealth Neuroscience Institute opens in 2015, it will provide employment for a variety of jobs, including up to 310 new healthcare positions.

Providing increased specialty and sub-specialty neuroscience care
More specialists and sub-specialists will join our nationally recognized neuroscience team, giving patients access to the widest range of expertise available in both complex and routine neurological conditions.

What is neuroscience?

Neuroscience is the study and diagnosis of diseases of the nervous system. This includes the central nervous system (the brain and spine) and the peripheral nervous system (the nerves outside the brain and spine). Brain and spine diseases and conditions treated by neuroscience experts include tumors, Alzheimer's, epilepsy, trauma to the head or spine, ruptured discs, spinal stenosis, vascular diseases, such as stroke, and more.
