Riverside's Preliminary Surgery Residency is a one year, ACGME-accredited program. Four preliminary residents per year are accepted into this comprehensive program. You’ll practice in Riverside Methodist’s 1,059-bed teaching hospital — ranked among the nation's best.

Getting to know us
Each year four residents enter the Preliminary Surgery Program and spend a year in a rotating internship, which includes: General Surgery, Vascular Thoracic Surgery, Acute Care and Trauma Surgery (Orthopedics and Neurosurgery), Endocrine Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, elective, Night Float, and SICU.
Following their preliminary year, residents enter all different types of residencies.
