Medical Spine Care at OhioHealth

Your home base for Comprehensive Spine Care Management and Coordination

Acute and chronic spine conditions can be frustrating and confusing. At OhioHealth, we’re your “home base” for care, providing comprehensive care management and coordination for your spine-related condition.

Our Approach to Spine Care

At OhioHealth, our medical spine specialists treat patients with neck or back issues — for example, people with pain or numbness caused by sitting all day, patients with sciatica, stenosis, degeneration.  These often accompany the aging process and those with strains and other injuries from physical activity.

What sets our program apart is our approach — we’re your “home base” for spine care. OhioHealth medical spine specialists develop treatment plans that are personalized to you and your needs — all with the goal of helping you achieve a healthier, more active lifestyle and improving your overall quality of life.

Our services range from as conservative as spine education, lifestyle changes, therapy and non-opioid treatment options to leading-edge treatments for musculoskeletal and nerve pain. Here, generally, is what you can expect:

Understanding the Source of Your Pain and/or Symptoms

We start by better understanding the source of your pain and/or symptoms. We’ll talk with you about your pain and other symptoms, how these may be hindering your daily activities, solutions you’ve tried that haven’t helped, and your goals for relief and improvement.

  • Spine education
  • Diagnostic imaging and tests
Conservative Care Plan

Once we’ve diagnosed your condition, we’ll develop and coordinate a comprehensive care management plan, taking as conservative an approach as possible.

  • Lifestyle modifications, including:
    • exercise plan
    • weight loss
    • diet change
  • Rehabilitation program oversight and collaboration
  • Evaluation for appropriateness of complementary treatments including:
    • massage therapy
    • spinal manipulation
    • acupuncture
  • Evaluation for:
    • non-opioid medication options
    • interventional procedures
    • associated behavioral health conditions, including anxiety and depression
    • appropriateness for surgical referral
Advanced Treatments

If you require more advanced treatment, we perform a range of medical treatments and other clinical therapies.

  • Spine and joint injections
  • Trigger-point injections
  • Dry needling (myofascial pain treatment using acupuncture needles)

If evaluation by a spine surgeon is necessary, we will facilitate referral to one of our best-in-class OhioHealth spine surgery experts, closely consulting and collaborating with them about your condition.
