Preparation for Long-Term Success

Our residency is designed to give you a strong foundation and work-life balance during your years of training. It includes, but is not limited to the following:

Residents will have an opportunity to attend various activities throughout the year including an annual retreat, quaterly class retreats and social outings. Our residents will also be presented the chance to become actively involved in leadership positions at the local, state and national level, where they can teach procedural skills, such as POCUS. In addition, funding is available to attend regional and national conferences.

Our rotations offer exposure to a wide variety of pathology, ample opportunity to perform procedures, and teaching faculty who challenge and inspire our residents to excel in the clinical arena. We offer specialized training rotations in areas that include:

  • Emergency Medical Services with flight and ground experience
  • Ultrasound
  • Simulation
  • Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
  • Emergency Department Administration
  • Academic Medicine

All residents are required to participate in a research project during the course of their training. In addition, they must participate in at least one other scholarly activity, such as a case report, journal article, poster presentation, clinical pathology or case competition. Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and OhioHealth Institute of Research and Innovation will provide you with the tools you need to plan and conduct your research project, including access to existing research, clinical and data coordination, contract guidance, quality assurance and other types of support.

Our program is committed to promoting physician well-being by providing resources for healthy lifestyles, choices and living, and by creating a workplace that fosters professional engagement and satisfaction. In addition, residents are supported through the Practitioner Health and Wellness program, which provides services such as counseling and wellness coaching, and hosts wellness meetings throughout the year to continue to support the needs of all residents.

Graduates of our program are currently practicing in 38 states, from the smallest emergency departments to some of the largest academic institutions. Many go on to complete a fellowship.

Three of our graduates founded and created the nationally recognized podcast, EM Over Easy.
