We accept two residents each year into a comprehensive program that sets the stage for success in a wide array of settings. You’ll practice in Riverside Methodist’s 1,059-bed teaching hospital, which is ranked among the nation’s best. Other rotations include rural and urban hospitals, clinics and destination pediatric and adult academic medical centers.
The Dermatology Residency at Riverside Methodist is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program.

Your yearly clinical practice includes general dermatology and an emphasis on surgical and cosmetic procedures. These include biopsy, phototherapy Mohs, lasers, fillers and other therapies. Throughout your residency, you’ll get intensive, hands-on dermatopathology training. You will practice in specialty clinics, too, including patch testing, cutaneous t-cell lymphoma (CTCL) and others.

Our residency supports your long-term success in whatever area of practice you choose. Your core curriculum will ensure you’re well prepared for board exams, while providing flexibility to adapt to individual learning styles, practice plans and career directions.
- FELLOWSHIP COMPETITION

Our broad-based training prepares you to enter a fellowship of your choice, if that’s part of your career path. Many of our residents enter competitive fellowship programs, such as Mohs, dermatopathology, pediatrics and cutaneous oncology.
- DIVERSE CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
-
You’ll practice in highly varied rural, urban and specialty settings and treat patients with common and complex diseases. Your experiences include several months each year in faculty-supervised outpatient clinics. You’ll also experience challenging, high-volume inpatient care for patients of all ages at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and The Ohio State University Medical Center.
Continuity Clinics — You’ll practice for four to six months each year in outpatient clinics where you’ll provide clinical care for your patients under faculty supervision.
Free and Specialty Clinics — Throughout your three years of training you’ll have opportunities to work in our free clinics as well as in a variety of dermatologic specialty clinics. Areas of focus include patch testing, cutaneous t-cell lymphoma (CTCL), pigmented lesion and cosmetics.

- CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

We offer intensive pediatric dermatology experience. You’ll spend two months each year managing inpatient and outpatient pediatric cases at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) — a destination academic pediatric medical center. NCH treats a wide range of common childhood skin conditions and rare dermatologic disorders.
- RESEARCH AND SUPPORT

Exceptional patient care requires active professional engagement and a lifelong commitment to learning. Our residents are involved in professional associations and events, such as the American Academy of Dermatology Conference and Real World Dermatology Conference. As part of our team, you’ll enjoy a well-rounded and fulfilling experience.
We encourage you to publish at least once annually within your areas of interest. You’ll have all the support you need from both faculty and OhioHealth personnel to help you attain your research and academic goals.
- DERMATOPATHOLOGY TRAINING

From didactics to clinical experience, you’ll have extensive dermatopathology training. This will deepen your understanding of the biology, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of skin disorders.
You’ll have one month of dermatopathology training each year. Additionally, there are weekly dermatopathology training sessions. Senior level residents travel one week each year for a week of intensive hands-on training with a dermatopathology partner.
