When You Arrive at O'Bleness Hospital

The day of your labor and delivery is a day you will remember for the rest of your life, and our goal is to make it as calm and peaceful for you as possible. Free parking is available around the clock at the front hospital entrance.

If you arrive during regular hospital hours, go directly to the O’Bleness Birth Center on the second floor. If you arrive after regular business hours, please enter the hospital through the Emergency Department, and you will be assisted to the second floor by the Emergency Department staff.

When You’re Admitted

During labor and delivery, you are allowed to have one support person in the room with you.

After delivery, you will be moved to a private postpartum room that includes comfortable sleeping accommodations for you and your partner, a private bathroom and shower, adjustable lighting, a rocking chair, a telephone, a television, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Meeting Your Baby

You will have the chance to hold your new baby as soon as he or she is born. Skin to skin contact is encouraged for the first hour of life. This contact with your baby not only promotes bonding but helps your baby stabilize his or her temperature, heart rate, breathing, and blood sugar. A nurse will then examine, weigh and measure your baby, and give your little one back to you to hold and feed.

After a normal delivery, we encourage you to keep your baby with you in your room during your hospital stay. Nursing can perform all needed testing on your baby at the bedside.

Visitor Policy

Parking for visitors is available in the main hospital lot. The Information Desk will direct them to the mother’s room when they arrive. All visitors will be asked to sign in when they arrive and sign out when they leave.

Visitor Policy Changes Due to COVID-19: Be sure to view the Visitor Restrictions and Mask Use section of our COVID-19 policy updates for the latest visitor guidelines. If you have any questions, call our care site for more information.

A doula will be permitted for labor and delivery. Doulas must follow the same policies and screenings as visitors. Laboring patients who are minors may have their parents or guardians as visitors, in addition to the parent-to-be of the baby. Care sites with NICUs will follow Nationwide Children’s Hospital visitor management policy.
