OhioHealth Grant Medical Center Level I Trauma Services Team of Experts

The Medical Director Of Trauma Services is the surgical leader of the multidisciplinary Trauma Program. The Trauma Medical Director is responsible for medical administration, quality of care, medical education, financial accountability and effective integration of Trauma Services. The Trauma Medical Director supervises an active clinical research program in trauma. Shay O'Mara, MD is the Medical Director of Trauma Services.

Trauma surgeons at Grant have completed trauma fellowships and are board certified in critical care medicine.  In their role, they coordinate all aspects of treatment including resuscitation, operation, critical/acute care and rehabilitation or discharge.  They also have involvement beyond the clinical arena in providing education and participating in research.

The Surgical Director of the Intensive Care Unit is the Assistant Medical Director of Patient Care Services is the Surgical Director of the Intensive Care Unit.  The Surgical Director is responsible for determining policies, practices and quality of care for the peri-operative and post-injury patient.  The Surgical Director collaborates with the Medical Director of Trauma Services to ensure effective integration of Trauma and Critical Care Services.  The Surgical Director assures appropriate ICU coverage, educational programs, and research activities.  

The Medical Director of Emergency Medicine is responsible for medical administration, quality of care, and effective integration of Emergency Medicine within the Trauma Services. The Director provides outreach educational programs in collaboration with the Medical Director of Trauma Services and serves as a medical liaison between Trauma and Emergency Medicine. The Director supervises the practice of the Emergency Medicine Trauma Fellows and Residents. Paul Gabriel, MD is the Director of Emergency Medicine.

The Director of Neurosurgery is responsible for medical administration, quality of care, and effective integration of Neurosurgery within the Trauma Services. The Director provides outreach educational programs in collaboration with the Medical Director of Trauma Services and serves as a medical liaison between Trauma and Neurosurgery. The Director supervises the practice of the Neurosurgery Trauma Fellows and Residents.

The Director Of Orthopedic Trauma is responsible for medical administration, quality of care, and effective integration of Orthopedics within the Trauma Services. The Director provides outreach educational programs in collaboration with the Medical Director of Trauma Services and serves as a medical liaison between Trauma and Orthopedics. The Director supervises the practice of the Orthopedic Trauma Fellows and Residents. Bruce G. French, MD is the Director of Orthopedic Trauma.

The trauma nurse practitioners (TNP) work in collaboration with the trauma surgeons to provide comprehensive care for the trauma patient. This group of certified advanced practice, master’s prepared nurses participates in the evaluation and treatment of patients in the Trauma Bay and on the Trauma Units from the time of admission through the time of discharge. The TNP is responsible for ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results and, developing and implementing patient treatment plans in conjunction with the Trauma Surgeons. Trauma Nurse Practitioners are in the hospital 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in order to provide immediate response to the needs of the trauma patient.
