Dr. Kenneth O. Cayce IV is a board-certified family medicine physician specializing in family, integrative and sports medicine. His interests include the medical aspects of sports medicine, including the treatment of hypertension, diabetes, asthma, nutrition, concussions, infections and orthopedic conditions in athletes.
Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Dr. Cayce completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Kentucky. His education included attending Transylvania University for his undergraduate degree, the University of Antigua School of Medicine for his medical degree and The Ohio State University Family Medicine Residency Program. Interested in sports medicine and research, Dr. Cayce completed a research project while in residency at The Ohio State University titled “Clinical Analysis of Division I and III Athletes.” This two-year research project included Ohio State football and basketball athletes, as well as additional Division III collegiate athletes. Dr. Cayce has stayed involved with The Ohio State University and is currently a clinical assistant professor.
Dr. Cayce recently co-authored a book chapter in Clinical Sports Medicine, a sports medicine textbook on the pre-participation exam. He also published an article on anterior cruciate ligament Injuries in Contemporary Pediatrics, a major pediatric journal. Finally, he has co-authored a book chapter on infections in Orthopaedic Knowledge Update, a highly regarded orthopedic textbook. He also enjoys speaking to patients, athletes, coaches, physicians and trainers on the prevention and diagnosis of injuries. As a board-certified family physician, Dr. Cayce brings a specialty that exists beyond a sports medicine physician, with extensive knowledge in primary care and integrative medicine issues. He is certified to treat both pediatrics and adult patients. Dr. Cayce is determined to give the best care for his patients from both a primary, complementary, and sports medicine aspect.
Dr. Cayce’s training allows him to treat all levels of athletes ranging from the professional, collegiate and middle and high school athletes to active individuals whose focus is recreational sports. Dr. Cayce actively participates in many high school and collegiate athletic events and has provided the primary care sports medicine physician coverage for Division I and Division II, as well as NAIA collegiate events. Dr. Cayce is currently the team physician at Olentangy High School and Denison University. He also has been the physician at the Olympic Training Center. In addition to collegiate and other school coverage, Dr. Cayce has experience in professional and Olympic coverage events, including football, baseball, triathlons, mixed martial arts, and marathons.
Dr. Cayce has served as a guest lecturer numerous times for the Family Medicine Board Review, in addition to serving as a lecturer and preceptor for the Cincinnati SportsMedicine & Orthopaedic Center and Grant Family Medicine Residency Program. He has recently been given the Patient’s Choice Award and has been named America’s Top Family Doctor in family and sports medicine every year since 2007.
Dr. Cayce is committed to providing the best medical treatment for his patients through the most current evidence-based medicine. His current research interests include optimal treatment of orthopedic injuries, concussions and nutritional supplementation in athletes.
