Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Some patients with problem wounds can benefit from breathing 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. Known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), this treatment rapidly transports high concentrations of oxygen directly to the bloodstream and allows the oxygen to penetrate deep into tissues to promote healing.

HBOT also assists in fighting infection and promotes the formation of new blood vessels.

HBOT may be particularly useful in treating:

  • Crush injuries
  • Diabetic foot sores
  • Infections, especially of soft tissue and bone
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Radiation injuries

Patients undergoing HBOT typically receive daily therapy for 120 to 150 minutes for six to 12 weeks.

After reviewing your medical history, your physician will determine if HBOT is the right treatment for you.

Other Treatments

HBOT works best when combined with other wound care treatments. We will work with you to achieve optimal whole body health. You may work with a nutritionist who will guide you in making healthy food choices that support the healing process. Nurses will teach you how to care for your wound at home and avoid future injuries. Our podiatrists may fit you with orthotics to protect your feet and promote healing.

Referrals

Referrals are required for all wound care and hyperbaric therapies. Talk to your physician to see if our programs or therapies might be right for you.
