Vascular Medicine

Non-surgical Treatments for Vascular Conditions

Our vascular medicine physicians specialize in providing state-of-the-art diagnoses and non-surgical treatments for disorders of the arteries, veins and lymphatic system outside of the heart.

Our physicians use a variety of ultrasound imaging techniques to diagnose conditions, including peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease, renal artery disease, aneurysms and deep venous thrombosis.

Medication Management

Sometimes patients can be treated with medications alone. If not, our vascular medicine specialists will refer you to the appropriate heart and vascular physician for further diagnostics or interventions. They will then collaborate with the physician and continue to manage your ongoing medical needs.

Center for Critical Limb Care

The center for critical limb care is a multidisciplinary wound care center for patients with lower extremity wounds. Patients will be evaluated and treated by nationally recognized physicians in the area of wound care, heart and vascular disease, and hyperbaric medicine.

Critical Limb Care Options:

Expert wound care by surgically trained podiatrists with advanced wound treatments. Our Center offers comprehensive wound care services for people with hard-to-heal wounds, including specialized care for patients with diabetes, and wounds that threaten limb loss.

A comprehensive heart and vascular evaluation:

  • All patients receive a “head to toe” cardiovascular risk assessment to optimize wound healing as lower extremity wounds need adequate circulation to heal
  • Venous stasis ulcers will be managed in conjunction with our state of the art vein clinic
  • Patients with lower extremity wounds often have undiagnosed heart conditions that can lead to limited survival
  • Attention to cardiovascular risk factors including blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and smoking cessation which all impact wound healing and cardiovascular wellness

Hyperbaric Medicine for adjunctive treatment to enhance wound healing. Some patients with problem wounds can benefit from breathing 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. Known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), this treatment rapidly transports high concentrations of oxygen directly to the bloodstream and allows the oxygen to penetrate deep into tissues to promote healing.

Participate in clinical research studies to benefit from new technology which would not otherwise be available.

Who should be evaluated in the Center for Critical Limb Care?

  • If you have been told you need an amputation, a second opinion may save your limb
  • If your current wound care is not progressing to a healed wound in a timely fashion
  • If you have been told you have osteomyelitis, infection of the bone
  • If you have been told “you have bad veins” and nothing can be done
  • If you have had a failed procedure on your lower extremity circulation
  • If you are a diabetic with a wound who has never had a circulation test

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a medical treatment that uses the administration of 100 percent oxygen at a controlled pressure to promote the healing of wounds. It is often prescribed for patients with non-healing wounds caused by poor circulation from diabetes or peripheral vascular disease, as well as conditions such as Reynaud’s disease.

Varicose/Spider Veins Treatment

Able to be treated much less invasively yet more effectively than in the past, our physicians are board-certified and extensively trained in the latest varicose and spider vein techniques, including:

  • Sclerotherapy and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy
  • Endovenous laser and radio frequency ablation
  • Ambulatory phlebectomy
