Why this program: Ash became interested in hospital pharmacy during APPE rotations where he was able to appreciate the variety of ways pharmacists can positively impact patient care. Ash plans to refine his skills in direct patient care, research, and teachingduring residency training and expects to be involved in these areas as an independent practitioner. His professional interests include critical care, pediatrics, and academia. In the future, Ash hopes to have completed two years of residency training, obtained Board certification in pharmacotherapy, and practice in a teaching hospital.

Favorite things to do: Watching Buckeye football, following the Cleveland Cavaliers/Browns/Indians, trying out exotic foods, bike-riding, playing soccer, utilizing the SBAR format in emails, and watching critically-acclaimed dramas.

 

 Lauren PeckLauren Peck, PharmD

Hometown: Honolulu, HI

College of Pharmacy: The Ohio State University

Program: PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice

Why this program: Lauren chose to complete a general pharmacy residency after her hospital internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Her professional interests include pediatrics, critical care, neurology, and emergency medicine. In the future, she plans to practice as a clinical pharmacist who remains involved in ongoing research projects and serve as a preceptor to pharmacy students.

Favorite things to do: Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends, dancing, sunny weather, trying new restaurants, cooking recipes for dishes that remind her of home, and anything pertaining to cats.

Why this program: Megan chose to complete a general pharmacy residency after her hospital internships at Hardin Memorial Hospital and Marion General Hospital. Her professional interests include oncology, infectious disease, and cardiology. In the future, she plans to become board certified in pharmacotherapy and practice as a clinical pharmacist in a teaching hospital.

Favorite things to do: Megan enjoys spending time with her friends and family, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, going to church, trail running, coffee, and walking her dog Dexter.

 Melissa FowlerMelissa Fowler, PharmD

Why this program: Melissa became interested in hospital pharmacy during her internship at Akron General Medical Center. Melissa completed several emergency medicine and critical care rotations throughout pharmacy school and her PGY-1 residency at Akron General, which led her to pursue a PGY-2 in critical care. Her current professional interests include: medical intensive care, infectious disease, emergency medicine, and toxicology. In the future, she plans to become board certified in critical care pharmacy and practice as a clinical pharmacist in a teaching hospital.

Favorite things to do: Melissa enjoys listening to country music, being outside, running, and spending time with friends and family.

 Girish DigheGirish (Gary) Dighe, PharmD

Program: PGY-1/PGY-2 MS Health-System Pharmacy Administration

Why this program: Gary was inspired to pursue a residency in health-system pharmacy administration after various leadership experiences at Duke University Medical Center as well as participating in policy and advocacy initiatives at the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists headquarters in Washington, DC. His future interests include leading pharmacy business development in clinical services and transitions of care at an academic medical center or large health system. Throughout his career, Gary hopes to be involved with national pharmacy organization leadership focusing on the advancement of our profession in evolving healthcare practice models.

Favorite things to do: In his spare time, Gary enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, family, and friends, experiencing the culture of Columbus, watching college football, and playing as much golf as residency will allow.

Joshua Ilenin
Joshua Ilenin, PharmD

Program: PGY1/PGY1/MS Health System Pharmacy Administration

Why this program: Dr. Joshua Ilenin chose to pursue a residency in health system pharmacy administration after an internship experience at the Cleveland Clinic during pharmacy school. His current professional interests include medication safety, informatics, operations management and leadership development. In the future, he hopes to obtain a management position in a large medical center or health system with the eventual goal of becoming a director of pharmacy. Dr. Ilenin also wants to remain involved with residency training and professional pharmacy organizations throughout his career, specifically focusing his efforts on health system pharmacy administration.

Favorite things to do: In his spare time, Dr. Ilenin enjoys exploring Columbus, trying new restaurants, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and spending time with family and friends, especially his new niece, Maci.

Jon Meli
Jonathan Meli, PharmD

Program: PGY1/PGY1/MS Health System Pharmacy Administration

Why this program: Dr. Jonathan Meli was inspired to pursue a residency in health system pharmacy administration after participating in various leadership opportunities throughout his pharmacy education as well as taking part in Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) administrative rotations. Jonathan has evolving interests in healthcare and appreciates the opportunity to be involved with a large health system, OhioHealth, over the course of the two-year administration residency.

Favorite things to do: Jonathan enjoys traveling to visit family in his hometown Akron, Ohio, as well as Istanbul, Turkey; spending time with his wife watching movies and cooking new recipes; and sneaking in as much football viewing as his wife can handle.

Brittany Ray

Why selected/career goals: Throughout Brittany’s time at Ohio Northern she was very involved in student organizations, especially the Student Society for Health System Pharmacy, which introduced her to the idea of residency. After doing her own research and attending meetings about residencies it was obvious that this was the path she was supposed to take. She fell in love with Grant Medical Center as an APPE student when she did a rotation there. There was a wide array of opportunities that intrigued her such as Pain/Nutrition, Emergency Medicine, and Infectious Disease. Her main interest is Infectious Disease and could potentially see herself working as a specialist in that area post residency. She also has so many other interests including Critical Care and Emergency Medicine that she would love to work in all of those areas versus specializing in her future career.
Favorite things to do: Brittany enjoys running and traveling when it can be fit into her busy resident schedule. She also enjoys reading, binge watching Netflix and playing with her cat, Toby.

Why selected/career goals: Lauren was exposed to the role of a clinical hospital pharmacist during her time as an intern. This experience led her to pursue a residency to become an excellent clinical pharmacist herself someday. She chose Grant Medical Center because the program has a strong focus in emergency medicine and critical care. Lauren spent time at Grant as an APPE student and really enjoyed the atmosphere and all of the preceptors. Lauren has an interest in emergency medicine, critical care, and infectious disease and hopes to practice in one of these areas in the future.
Favorite things to do: In her spare time, Lauren enjoys to run, read, and watch TV. She also enjoys traveling to Florida to visit her nephew.

Why selected/career goals: After an inspiring medication safety student rotation, Linda decided to pursue a path in health-system pharmacy administration. She is delighted to have found a home at Grant, where the pharmacy team is passionate, fun, and committed to developing its residents. Her professional interests include quality improvement, medication safety, drug information, and teaching. In the future, she hopes to serve as an administrator in a health system or in academia.
Favorite things to do: Cooking, trying new foods, wine tasting at Market District Giant Eagle, traveling, and weight lifting.

Why selected/career goals: Larren enjoyed leadership throughout pharmacy school and her passion was enlivened during APPE experiences. Grant is a great place to learn and grow as a leader, due to the fluidity of its leadership team. Larren appreciates that the preceptors push the residents to grow as clinicians as well as leaders. Post residency, she hopes to manage clinical services and medication safety. Her professional interests include human resources, practice model expansion, medication safety and quality, accountable care, value-based purchasing and process improvement.
Favorite things to do: Larren most enjoys spending time with her husband and two cats. Other interests include cooking, baking, knitting, running and swing dancing.
