COLUMBUS, Ohio – U.S. News & World Report has announced that OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital is ranked 42 out of 50 on its list of “America’s Best Hospitals” for neurology and neurosurgery in 2014-2015. This places Riverside Methodist among the fewer than 150 hospitals to be nationally ranked out of approximately 5,000 hospitals nationwide.
“This most recent recognition is yet another example of OhioHealth’s commitment to leading neuroscience care, and is a testament to the work of our leaders, physicians and associates, not just at Riverside Methodist, but all of OhioHealth,” said Robert Millen, executive vice president and chief operating officer for OhioHealth. “It shows the nation what we’ve known for years, that OhioHealth is a leader in neuroscience and we’re committed to becoming a destination for quality neuroscience care.”
The timing of this recognition is not surprising, considering the advances made in neuroscience care with the OhioHealth Stroke Network, which uses advanced telemedicine to connect emergency teams at community hospitals to specialists in critical care and stroke at our OhioHealth facilities in Columbus, Ohio. In addition, OhioHealth is currently constructing a Neuroscience Center/patient tower at Riverside Methodist, a Joint Commission certified Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, which will continue to elevate neuroscience care for the region.
According to U.S. News, nearly 2 million hospital patients every year face surgery or care that poses technical challenges or an increased risk of death or harm because of age, physical condition or infirmities. The rankings provide a tool to help such patients find unusually skilled inpatient care.
Riverside Methodist also ranked as “high-performing” in cancer, gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
Grant Medical Center ranked as “high-performing” in diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
