Program strengths: The internship year is "linked" to the first year of residency when applying as a student. The intern can expect to begin the program by becoming familiar with neurosurgical pathology, instruments, operative techniques and procedures, and incorporates extensive training in general surgery during the intern year. Additional areas of concentration include neuroradiological diagnosis and procedures, supervised surgical procedures on the head, spine, and peripheral nerves. Experience in a level 1 trauma center is incorporated throughout the entire training program. Responsibility in the operating room advances each training year. *Applicants are encouraged to participate in an elective rotation within the department.
