A Message from McConnell's General Manager
Dear MHHC Members,
May is here, and so are some new changes not only for MHHC but also for OhioHealth! On April 25, MHHC once again hosted the annual 5K Fun Run and Walk. We had more than 125 participants and raised approximately $1,000 for the American Heart Association and the OhioHealth Foundation. Congratulations to George Roulette and Erin Harmeyer for being our top male and female 5K Run winners and Lin Santora and Jason Laipply for being our top male and female 5K Walk winners. Thank you to all of our staff, volunteers, runners, walkers and sponsors for making this another great event. We hope you enjoyed it! If you were unable to participate we hope you will consider joining us next year!
As we have communicated last month, during May the McConnell Center clinics, such as Physical Therapy and the Coumadin Clinic, will be going “live” on the new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. This new system will help integrate all of the OhioHealth care sites and hospitals. Our MHHC clinics are making the transition on May 3, and our teams have been working hard to make the transition as easy as possible. If you are currently a patient in one of our clinics, please be patient as we get acclimated to the new system. Patient wait times may be a little longer as we navigate through and update your information, but we plan to schedule fewer participants for the first few weeks so we can minimize any inconvenience. The new EMR will offer all of our patients access to an online patient portal available called OhioHealth MyChart. We encourage you to sign up for MyChart when it becomes available so you can access many of your test results and even communicate with your physician electronically. Thank you for your kindness and patience during this transition.
Thank you for your continued support and membership of McConnell Heart Health Center. We are honored to be your Center of choice for your health and lifestyle needs. Please feel free to contact me for your questions, concerns, or to share how MHHC has changed your life. We are always looking for great stories to share with our members and the community about the impact MHHC has had on others. I look forward to seeing you around the Center!

One Man's Vision
The McConnell Heart Health Center is named in honor of John H. and Peggy J. McConnell for their extraordinary commitment to advancing the care and prevention of heart disease. John H. McConnell provided the major gift that made the McConnell Center a reality. His vision was to provide a holistic approach to prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of heart disease.
Today, that dream continues with his many friends and family through their philanthropic support of the many programs and services at the McConnell Center. Most recently, his son John P. McConnell, who serves on the OhioHealth Board of Directors, extended his father’s vision by establishing the John H. McConnell Endowed Chair for Advanced Structural Heart Disease. The endowed chair, a first at OhioHealth, is held by Steven Yakubov, MD, who leads teams from several cardiac specialties to research devices for treating abnormalities of the heart valves and vessels to the wall of the heart.
The McConnell family has also made several gifts to OhioHealth to build the heart program, including the development of the McConnell Heart Health Hospital at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital and outpatient centers for heart and musculoskeletal problems.
Please help continue this legacy of helping prevent heart disease and those who already have heart disease by giving generously today. Please visit the OhioHealth Foundation online or call Barbara Markus at (614) 533.6046.
From MHHC and the American Red Cross...Thank You
On behalf of the American Red Cross, we extend our THANK YOU to all of those who were able to participate and donate blood at McConnell on April 13. Our site had 19 out of the goal of 20 productive units. With the ongoing support of our McConnell Associates and Members, we have been awarded the Certificate of Achievement, which recognizes facilities that consistently meet and/or exceed the goals.
Again, Many Thanks for your support!
Donate to the Buck-A-Book Table
We welcome any book donations you would like to make to the Buck-A-Book table. The table is set up at different times during the year, and 100% of the proceeds benefit organizations, such as the Arthritis Foundation, American Heart Association and Operation Feed. If you have books to donate, we would be happy to receive them from you and include them in the fundraising events. May 14 through June 26 we'll have a Buck-A-Book sale, Spare Change Challenge and a collection of non-perishable food items for the Operation Feed Campaign 2015.
