Palliative care is an interdisciplinary team approach to managing patients with progressive or chronic diseases or illnesses with the goal of achieving the best possible quality of life.
The Palliative Medicine team works with the attending physician to address symptom management, advance care planning, psychological support and spiritual care needs throughout the disease process.

Cancer and Oncology Counseling
Oncology counseling can assist with the emotional aspects of cancer, including adjustments to illness, role changes, coping, hoping, anxiety and healing.
OhioHealth Cancer Care provides referrals to oncology counseling by a licensed therapist to cancer patients, their families and care providers.
How can my family and I benefit from cancer counseling?
The counselor will talk with you about your emotional needs, issues and concerns related to living with cancer and will help you learn the skills you need to cope with cancer.
Who might benefit from cancer counseling?
Oncology counseling is appropriate for newly diagnosed cancer patients, patients in treatment, family members and loved ones of cancer patients including children or care providers.
Can I continue cancer counseling if I'm not in the hospital?
Yes, once you are a patient of OhioHealth Cancer Care, oncology counseling is available to you, your family, loved ones and care providers throughout your treatment.
Is oncology counseling confidential?
Yes, counseling sessions at OhioHealth are confidential and private.
Can my referring physician receive information about my care?
If you are receiving inpatient or outpatient services at OhioHealth, your physician will have continued access to your care and progress through your medical record.

Cancer and Nutrition
Our dietitians are available on our nursing units. They provide comprehensive patient monitoring and make recommendations related to nutritional support, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
Dietitians are available for individual and family counseling for all nutritional problems, including those from cancer treatments.
