  • Orthopedic Excellence
    In 2009, 2008, 2007, 2003 and 2002, Grant Medical Center was named in the top 50 hospitals in the nation for its excellence in orthopedics by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of "America's Best Hospitals." U.S. News develops its list based on key indicators including mortality rates, reputation, technology, certifications and patient and community services. Grant's nationally recognized orthopedics program helps to support its Level I Trauma Center, one of the busiest in the state.
  • Excellence in diabetes and endocrin disorders
    In 2009, Grant Medical Center was named in the top 50 hospitals in the nation for its excellence in diabetes and endocrin disorders by U.S. News & World Report in its list of "America's Best Hospitals."
  • Excellence in Stroke Treatment
    In 2008 and 2007, Grant received the American Stroke Associations's "Get with the Guidelines - Stroke Annual Performance Achievement Award." This award recognizes Grant's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.
  • Four-Star Award
    In 2008, Grant was named a Four Star Excellence Award hospital for Overall Quality of Care by Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). In 2006, Grant received a four-star award for Surgical Services. In 2005, Grant received a four-star award for Overall Quality of Patient Care. The awards are presented to facilities that scored in high percentiles in PRC’s national medical staff perception database for the previous year, based on medical staff that rate the facility as excellent.
  • Disease-Specific Certifications
    In 2008, Grant Medical Center was awarded four disease-specific certifications from The Joint Commission. Grant was the first hospital in Ohio to receive certification for both "Joint Replacement - Knee" and "Joint Replacement - Hip." Grant also received certifications for Heart Failure and Primary Stroke Center.
  • Quality and Safety

    In 2007, Grant was recognized by the Leapfrog Group Quality and Safety Survey for full implementation of Leapfrog's recommended quality and safety practices, placing Grant in the 85th percentile of all surveyed hospitals. Only 1,216 hospitals of the more than 5,000 across the nation felt they were performing at a high enough level to even complete the survey.
  • Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
    In 2007, Grant Medical Center became the only hospital in central Ohio, and one of only six imaging centers in Ohio, to be designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The designation recognizes imaging centers dedicated to improving women's health by participating in rigorous quality assurance programs. In order to receive the designation, a center must be fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
  • Excellence in Treatment of Heart Failure
    In 2007 and 2006, the Heart Failure Team at Grant Medical Center received the Greenlight Status Award from VHA Central for excellence in the treatment of heart failure. The Greenlight Award recognizes hospitals that perform at 90 percent or greater in four core indicators for multiple quarters. Grant achieved 90 percent or greater in all core indicators for five consecutive quarters.
  • VHA Leadership Award
    Grant Medical Center received a 2007 VHA Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence in treating congestive heart failure based on performance in 2006. The Leadership Awards recognize member organizations that have differentiated themselves by demonstrating extraordinary levels of performance in clinical excellence, operational excellence and supply chain management improvement. In 2006, Grant received the Clinical Excellence Award for treating congestive heart failure and the Operational Excellence Award for Earning Magnetâ„¢ Designation.
  • Coding Accuracy
    In 2007, Grant Medical Center, along with Riverside Methodist Hospital and Doctors Hospital, was ranked among the nation's top 200 hospitals for coding accuracy, as recognized in the "Top 200 Coding Hospitals in the U.S." Sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association, the national study was conducted by Ingenix, a leading health information company, and recognizes hospitals with the most complete and compliant medical coding practices for the previous year. Medical coding assigns codes to diagnoses and procedures which help in financial reimbursement. The award validates the high level of attention to patient charts and medical records. Grant was also named a "Top Coding Hospital" in 2006.
  • Honored for Organ Donation
    In 2007, Grant Medical Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital were awarded the Gold Medal of Honor for Organ Donation from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration for maintaining an 80 percent organ donation rate from eligible donors for one year during a specified 26-month period. Of the 716 elligible hospitals, just over half met the donation rate criteria for the award. In 2004, Grant was one of 19 hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in Ohio to be honored by Tommy Thompson, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, for successful efforts in the Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative.
  • Patient Safety
    In 2006, Grant Medical Center and Riverside Methodist Hospital received the Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety from HealthGrades, the leading healthcare ratings organization. Based on their study, HealthGrades identified 238 hospitals that comprise the top 15 percent in the nation for patient safety, identifying the best performing hospitals to establish a best-practice benchmark against which other hospitals can be evaluated. Grant and Riverside were the only two central Ohio hospitals to receive this award.
  • Critical Care Excellence
    In 2006, and 2005, Grant's Coronary Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit/Trauma Critical Care Unit each received the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). Critical care units that receive this recognition have exhibited high quality standards, exceptional care of patients and their families, and provide a healthy work environment. Grant Medical Center is Ohio's busiest Level I trauma center and the only hospital in Ohio in 2005 to have two units receive the Beacon Award. Only 79 of the more than 6,000 critical care units nationwide have received this award.
  • CareScience Select Practice National Quality Leader
    Grant Medical Center received the 2006 CareScience Select Practice National Quality Leader Award for Medically Managed Acute Myocardial Infarction, a distinction shared by less than 2 percent of hospitals in the nation. In order to achieve this exclusive status, Grant demonstrated a combination of superior clinical outcomes and exceptional efficiency within that clinical category when compared to other hospitals in the United States.
  • Nursing Excellence
    In 2005, Grant Medical Center was awarded "Magnet Designation" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Magnet Designation is the highest level of recognition awarded to healthcare organizations for nursing excellence. Grant joins fewer than 170 hospitals in the nation with this designation.
  • Healthy Ohioans Worksite
    In 2005, Grant was one of just 11 organizations statewide to receive the Governor's Healthy Ohioans Worksite Award, an annual award that recognizes organizations for their commitment to employee health.
  • Top Docs
    In 2004, several Grant Medical Center physicians were recognized by their peers as central Ohio's "Best Doctors" in surveys conducted by Columbus television station WBNS-10TV and The Columbus Dispatch. Grant physicians were also named to the list in 1999 and 2001.
  • Best All Around
    In 2004, 1997 and 1996, Grant was rated as one of the nation's Top 100 Hospitals by Thomson, a leading healthcare information company. Grant received this recognition for outstanding performance in clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, financial results, service to the community and, in 2004, for patient safety. Grant and Riverside were the only two Columbus hospitals to receive this honor in 2004.
  • Quality Vascular Services
    In 2002 and 2004, Grant Medical Center received a five-star rating, the highest rating possible, for carotid endarterectomy procedures (surgical repair of blocked arteries) from HealthGrades, Inc. a healthcare quality ratings, information and advisory services company.
  • Tier Three Excellence
    Grant Medical Center was awarded tier three status with the Ohio Award for Excellence in 2003. The award is endorsed by Gov. Taft and given to organizations that demonstrate significant progress toward excellence.
  • Top Cardiovascular Hospital
    Grant Medical Center was named one of the Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country in 2001 and 2003 based on a survey by Thomson, a leading provider of healthcare data and benchmark information.
  • National Designation
    Grant Medical Center was identified by Data Advantage Corporation, a health information company, as one of the nation's 100 low cost and low charge providers for certain DRGs in 2002.
  • Top Rated Cardiac Program
    In 2001, Grant's cardiac program was named the top rated program in the Columbus area by HealthGrades, a national leader in providing comprehensive, objective quality ratings.
  • Top in Breast Cancer Care
    In a 2001 study by Thomson (formerly Solucient), Grant was named among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for care of women with breast cancer.
  • Top Orthopedic Hospital
    In 1999, Grant Medical Center's orthopedics program ranked among the 100 Top Hospitals in the country for orthopedic care. The rankings were based on a study performed by HCIA, Inc., a healthcare data service, and The Health Network, a cable news network providing consumer health information, to determine excellence in hospital efficiency, quality of care and value to consumers.
  • Safety First
    Grant Medical Center received a Top 20 award in the Ohio Hospital Association's (OHA) 1998 Statewide Hospital Safety Campaign for having one of the best workplace safety records among Ohio hospitals and health systems of its size.
