Mike Reichfield
President - Doctors Hospital

To us, great hospitals start with great people. And with the team of passionate and talented individuals that we have, you don't have to spend much time in our hallways to realize that Doctors Hospital is a special place.

Great hospitals start with great people

At Doctors Hospital we have a full complement of health care services and modern technology, but we know that truly great hospitals start with great people. People that go above and beyond the call of duty to take care of the patients and families we serve every day. It's why Doctors will always be a hospital as special as the incredible people working here.

Nationally recognized for quality
Joint Commission National Quality Approval seal Doctors Hospital is the only central Ohio hospital to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the American Osteopathic Association's Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) the nation's leading monitors of quality healthcare.

Award-winning staff
No matter what the department, no matter what the position, the staff members at Doctors are extremely passionate about what they do. It's this commitment that has frequently earned our nursing leadership Ohio's Nurse Executive of the Year award. In addition, the state's recent Healthcare Worker of the Year was a Doctors Hospital staffer. And although we like all the attention, it's not the driving force behind our staff's dedication to delivering great healthcare that just comes naturally.

Our technology isn't the only thing that's advanced.
Our healthcare team is also gaining a reputation for being on the forefront of emerging healthcare technologies. From minimally invasive outpatient procedures designed to enhance recovery time to exciting new methods for performing open-heart surgery, the care at Doctors Hospital has people all over the nation taking notice.

Finding a better way
Doctors Hospital and the physicians on our medical staff have had a long history of being open to new healthcare technologies and delivery concepts. From as early as the 1960s when Doctors built the nation's first satellite hospital on West Broad Street now the current Doctors Hospital, to recently when a national medical company picked Doctors Hospital as one of five sites in the country to test a device designed to make off-pump heart surgeries less traumatic. With this ongoing level of commitment to innovation, it's no surprise that future physicians from all over the country choose Doctors for their residency programs from neurosurgery and orthopedics to OB/GYN, pediatrics and family practice.

Taking heart care to the next level
Doctors Hospital's heart services is one of the fastest growing programs in all of Columbus and an integral part of OhioHealth McConnell Heart Care a comprehensive approach to keeping hearts healthy. By working collaboratively among Doctors, Grant and Riverside hospitals, OhioHealth is creating a heart care model by which all others in the country will be judged. At the core of the Doctors program is a dedicated team of quality driven cardiologists focused on delivering the best patient care experience possible. They are backed by open-heart surgeons recruited to Doctors from several of the nation's most prestigious heart centers. Together with an expertly trained and experienced staff of clinical professionals, the McConnell Heart Care Team at Doctors takes care of each patient's heart like it was the only one.

Caring doesn't stop at our front doors
Doctors has a long standing heritage of focusing on community need and responding. Whether it's helping teens quit smoking or providing influenza vaccines in lower income neighborhoods, at Doctors we know sometimes the best place to treat the community is in the community. And our community health services like the Pediatric, Women's Health and Family Practice centers provide valuable healthcare to people who might not have anywhere else to go.

Planning for the future
Doctors is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to meet the needs of our patients and referring physicians. With the increasing demand for healthcare services on Franklin County's growing west side, Doctors' future plans include the development of a new medical office complex and an emergency department expansion. You may wonder why Doctors Hospital would go to so much trouble to improve a hospital already nationally accredited and a preferred training destination for the physicians of the future. But perhaps this commitment to improving the health of those we serve is what gave us that reputation in the first place.

Emergency care

With one of the busiest emergency departments in Columbus (more than 70,000 patient visits in 2003), the Doctors Hospital emergency staff and board-certified emergency physicians have earned a reputation for providing timely, quality care as well as a positive patient care experience. And for those with minor emergencies, the department's fast-track program ensures quick yet quality care, reducing wait times and cost.

Maternity care

Doctors' state-of-the-art obstetrics unit celebrated more than 1,200 births in 2003. The entire Maternity Center, including 12 home-like birthing suites, was specifically designed to provide an extremely private, yet safe labor, delivery and recovery experience. A full complement of nurses and board-certified obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatal specialists and anesthesiologists provide personal, skilled care for patients and their new family members. Columbus Children's Hospital operates a satellite special care nursery on the unit to care for newborns with special needs.

Cancer care
Utilizing state-of-the-art imaging and treatment technology, Doctors Hospital clinicians are capable of diagnosing and treating a wide range of cancers, including breast, prostate, lung and colon. In addition, special cancer patient programs, such as therapeutic touch, massage and art therapy, provide patients with emotional and physiological support to aid their healing.

Doctors Hospital's cancer program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program with commendation in clinical research and community education. This accreditation means we offer total cancer care, including state-of-the art diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, that meets or exceeds quality standards.

Medical education

Some of the best and brightest medical students, interns and residents from across the nation come to Doctors Hospital to further their medical training. Physician faculty members help prepare new physicians to specialize in family practice, orthopedics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery and more. Doctors Hospital is also the regional training site for the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
