Q:   What are Braxton Hicks contractions and when should I go to the hospital?

A:  Braxton Hicks are false labor contractions.  They are typically felt more frequently in the last trimester of pregnancy and help ripen the cervix and uterus for actual labor.

Patients should go to Labor & Delivery if they experience consistent contractions every 5 minutes, loss of fluid, vaginal bleeding, and decreased or no fetal movements.

Always call your OB physician with any questions you might have throughout your pregnancy.
