How course offerings are selected
OhioHealth University courses are selected to improve current performance or provide new knowledge and skills needed to reach the strategic goals of the individual or the organization. Courses are selected based on needs identified through a variety of assessments:

  • Performance evaluations
  • Associate Opinion Survey
  • Individual Development Plans
  • Customer feedback
  • Balanced Scorecard results
  • General interest

Course selection is also guided by our competency models for staff and leadership. Individuals are evaluated on these competencies on an annual basis and our learning programs are designed to help strengthen skills, increase knowledge, and develop personal characteristics and behaviors associates need to perform their roles effectively.

Learning delivery methods
In order to create a learning organization, education needs to be as accessible as possible to individuals at all levels of the organization in a format that will best meet their learning needs. To achieve this goal, a variety of learning delivery methods are used including:

  • Classroom instruction – to allow for group interaction, discussion, role playing, observation and practice in a safe environment under the expert guidance of a facilitator
  • Computer-based programs (e-learning) – for the efficient delivery of information and testing for comprehension
  • Self-learning kits (videos, books, study guides) – for self-paced development
  • Performance Aids – for quick reference to retain new skills or refresh skills when needed
  • Webinars - to allow for discussions and interactions without the need for traveling
  • Other learning events (precepting, coaching, mentoring, special project participation, advisory councils) – using other leaders, supervisors and peers to enhance individual development

ACE is required to ensure that individuals have the knowledge and skills to perform at expected levels, to create a safe environment and to comply with accreditation standards. ACE courses include such topics as corporate ethics and compliance, HIPAA information privacy and security, patient and staff safety and infection control. Associates will be paid for all education they are required to complete. All associates need to have completed and passed the required courses annually.

Completion of computer-based courses is recorded automatically in the learning management system. associates are encouraged to complete required computer-based courses while at work. If this is not possible, associates must have supervisor approval to complete required education away from work and their compensation will be based the average completion times published by the course provider.
