Why do I need a mammogram?
As you get older, your chances of getting breast cancer get higher. Cancer can show up at any time – and when it is found early, you have the best chance of successful treatment. That's why an annual mammogram – your screening test for breast cancer - should be a part of every woman's healthcare – beginning at age 40.

One out of every eight women is affected by breast cancer, which is the most common cancer among American women. The American Cancer Society estimates that 75 percent of breast cancer cases occur in women with no known risk factors. An annual mammogram, paired with the monthly breast self-exam and a yearly clinical breast exam by a doctor, is the best way to detect breast changes early.

What is a screening mammogram?
A screening mammogram is designed to detect lumps too small to be felt by hand.

Mammograms are quick and easy. For most women, the entire appointment takes less than 30 minutes.

You simply stand in front of a special X-ray machine and the technologist helps you rest your breast between two plastic panels. Sure it's uncomfortable when the panels compress on your breast – that's what makes a clear picture. Our free MammoPad® makes it more comfortable, and the pressure only lasts a few seconds.  Isn't peace of mind worth a few moments of discomfort?

  • Your mammogram is read by a highly experienced radiologist physician
  • For women who need it, some of our locations offer digital mammography. It's a new way to store your breast image on a computer so the radiologist can enhance or magnify it to get a better look. For women with dense breasts, this new technology helps the radiologist more easily see subtle differences between normal and abnormal areas.
  • We offer Computer-Assisted Detection (CAD) with every screening mammogram. With CAD, a computer scans and marks any areas that deserve special attention by the radiologist. CAD can detect the earliest stages of breast cancer 12 to 19 percent more often.
